Skincare as a feeling.
Not a chore.
Not a clinical trial.
Founded 2018, Los Angeles.
Marianna Hewitt & Lauren Ireland.

The feeling sold every 2 seconds.

Summer Fridays did not win by being the most clinical, the most luxurious, or the most aggressive on price. It won by turning a single blue tube of Jet Lag Mask into a ritual — and then into a $500 million retail business, the #1 skincare brand at Sephora, and a lip balm that became a social currency.

01Why Summer Fridays / The American Case

Ease is the hardest thing to engineer.

American skincare has spent a decade oscillating between two poles: clinical authority and aspirational luxury. One asks you to trust the lab coat. The other asks you to trust the price tag. Summer Fridays took a third route — it asked you to trust a feeling.

Launched in 2018 with a single product, the Jet Lag Mask, the brand had no advertising budget and no celebrity endorsement. Within two weeks it became the #1 selling skincare product on Sephora's entire platform, outselling La Mer, SK-II, and Sunday Riley[reference:0]. The formula was solid — niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, ceramides — but the insight was structural: it was a mask you did not have to wash off, a moisturiser you were allowed to call a mask, a product that created its own category[reference:1].

“We never wanted skincare to feel like something you had to do in the morning. We wanted it to feel like a ritual you looked forward to.”
— Marianna Hewitt, Co-founder & CEO

Six years later, the brand generates $244 million in annual retail sales (as of September 2025), commands 10.5% of Sephora's skincare category, and holds seven of the retailer's top 10 skincare SKUs[reference:2]. An industry source told Business of Fashion that annual retail sales have since reached approximately $500 million[reference:4]. In July 2024, TSG Consumer Partners acquired a majority stake, reportedly valuing the company at over $700 million[reference:5].

For the US market specifically, the case is not about being the most potent or the most prestigious. It is about being the most frictionless credible option — a brand that fits into a real routine, travels in a carry-on, survives a “Get Ready With Me” video, and does not demand a skincare degree or a luxury budget to participate.

Leaping Bunny

Certified cruelty-free through Cruelty Free International's Leaping Bunny Programme, managed in North America by the CCIC[reference:6].

100% Vegan

Entire product range is vegan — no animal products or derivatives across skincare, lip, and hybrid makeup[reference:7].

Clean Formula

Avoids parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. Phenoxyethanol-based preservation within EU/TGA safe limits[reference:8].

Recyclable Packaging

Product packaging is recyclable, though the brand's broader environmental and labour disclosures remain limited[reference:9].

#1

Lip Butter Balm
in US prestige lip.

One Lip Butter Balm now sells every two seconds globally. It became the top prestige lip product in the US not through paid campaigns, but through organic adoption — most visibly when Sofia Richie Grainge applied Pink Sugar in wedding-weekend content, sending the shade to a 7,000-person waitlist overnight[reference:11].

02Where It Lives

Not a shelf object. A daily reflex.

S / 01

Post-flight
recovery

Jet Lag Mask was designed for the specific fatigue of modern travel — late nights, cabin dryness, time zones. It doubles as a daily moisturiser, eye cream, and hand cream, which is why it became a carry-on staple rather than a bathroom fixture.

Travel / multi-use
S / 02

The “no-makeup”
makeup moment

Lip Butter Balm sits at the skincare-makeup hybrid line: shea butter and cocoa butter on an occlusive base, with a tint and a vanilla finish that reads polished, not juvenile. It is the product that made a balm feel like a taste decision.

Creator routine
& gifting

The packaging was designed for digital behaviour: it photographs clean, travels visibly, and functions as a signifier in “Get Ready With Me” content. That same logic made it a default gift and travel-retail pick across 830+ Sephora EU doors.

03The Competitive Matrix

Summer Fridays vs. the glow establishment.

Laneige, Glow Recipe, and Rhode each own a distinct lane: K-beauty hydration authority, fruit-forward “clean” fun, and minimalist celebrity restraint. Summer Fridays sits between them — and that position is the point.

US value proposition Solves real-use problems (fatigue, travel, lip dryness) at a prestige-accessible price with a certified clean formula. Feels like a lifestyle, not a treatment protocol. Deep hydration credibility from K-beauty heritage; strong sleeping-mask authority. Playful, fruit-forward textures that make skincare feel low-stakes and shareable. Celebrity founder gravity; aspirational minimalism and skin-barrier positioning.
Where it differentiates Emotional framing (“summer Friday” as a feeling) + hybrid formats + creator-native distribution without leaning on a single founder’s fame. Ingredient heritage and hydration science. Novelty and sensorial texture. Founder-led aspiration and product scarcity.

Lip Butter Balm in Vanilla is the best-selling lip balm at Mecca for a reason — shea butter, occlusive base, vanilla scent that doesn't read juvenile. Jet Lag Mask earned its reputation as a redness-reducing, plumping overnight mask that works.

Summer Fridays is a brand that I recently discovered. I’ve really leaned into buying a lot of their products, and this cleanser is really good. It’s really light. It’s not super scented.

The Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm checks all my boxes: It hydrates, looks glossy, doesn't feel sticky, and smells absolutely delicious. I've tried plenty of formulas that end up drying out quickly on the skin.

I have repurchased these Summer Fridays Jet Lag Eye Patches at least five times. My favorite lip balm of all time right now is the Summer Fridays in Pink Guava.

The credible
choice is the
one you reach for.

Summer Fridays does not ask you to choose between a lab and a lifestyle. It asks you to choose the product that already fits the life you are actually living — and to trust a certified vegan, Leaping Bunny formula while you do it.
